When a batter reaches a century, they raise the bat to the dressing room and the crowd, acknowledging the people who helped get them there. This week Emery Little passed 100 five-star Google reviews, so this is us raising the bat.

To everyone who has taken the time to leave one, thank you from all of us. It can feel like a small thing to do, but for a firm like ours it makes a real difference.

Why reviews matter

Most people who come to us were recommended by someone they trust. That might be a former colleague, a family member we already look after or a friend who’s been with us for years. But almost every one of them Googles us before picking up the phone.

Google reviews have become the new word of mouth. If you’re choosing who to trust with your family’s finances, what 100 clients say about a firm counts for more than anything it says about itself.

It means a lot to the team too. Planning work is often quiet and behind the scenes, so hearing that it’s made a difference to someone reminds us why we do it.

Planning to 100

100 is a lovely round number, and it’s one short of the Dalmatians. Winnie and I watched the original recently (it was great).

In our world, it’s also the age we build our clients’ Financial Plans to. It sounds optimistic until you see the figures. The number of centenarians in the UK doubled in the 20 years to 2024, to around 16,600, and roughly one in every 4,200 people in the country is now 100 or over.

Running out of money too early is a far bigger risk than leaving a little behind, so we plan for the long innings. When the King’s card arrives, we’re hoping we made sure it was a comfortable 100.

The next 100

If you’ve thought about leaving us a five-star review but haven’t got round to it, here’s the link. We’d love to make it 200.

And if anything about working with us ever falls short of five stars, please tell us. We’d always rather hear it and put it right.

Thank you again for being part of the innings.
